All things come from the Tao

Nourished by its outpouring

With matter they take shape

With use perfects them

Therefore all things

Without exception

Honor the Tao

Not by law

But by being

Thus it is the Tao that nourishes all things

Brings them to growth

Matures them, maintains them

All men live, all men die

But some men want to live forever

And so perish early

For it is the undying cancer cell that destroys

By its unnatural self-perpetuation

Those who grasp not at life

Are filled with it

And so do not  fear tigers and rhinos in the wild

For rhinos find n...

The sage does not distinguish between himself and the world

The needs of others are as his own

He is good to those who are good

But he is also good to those who are not good

Thus he is good

The Tao may be seen without looking out a window

He sees without looking

Accomplishes without doing

Horses bear manure in the fields

When nations ignore the Tao

Horses bear soldiers through the streets

There is no greater mistake than to pursue desires

No greater disaster than to forget contentment

No greater sickness than seeking attainment

And autumn overcomes the heat,

So do calm and quiet

What is dearer, health or reputation?

What has more worth, health or possessions?

What is more troublesome, profit or loss?

Passionate love incurs great expense

Great riches incur great fear

But contentment comes at no cost

He who knows when to stop

Does not continue on into...

Lughnasadh is one of the four ancient fire festivals. One might call Lughnasadh (August 1st) and Imbolc (February 1st) the lost festivals. Samhain and, to a lesser extent, Beltane are still respectively celebrated at Halloween and on May Day in many places in the moder...

Water, the softest of substances

Overcomes hard stone

For being insubstantial,

It requires no opening

There is the benefit of action without motive

Yet few act without motive

And direct experience without abstraction are

practiced by very few
